Introducing Literary Theory

Studying literature is so much more than ‘the blue curtains reflect the protagonist’s sadness’. Analysing texts can be a bold, exciting and radical act! In this cycle of six lessons, you will be introduced to six main schools of literary theory (Marxism, feminism, gender studies & queer theory, postcolonialism and animal studies & ecocriticism). What you will learn will both complement and challenge what you have been taught in the classroom and help you see your favourite literary texts (and maybe even the world) in a whole new light!

Disability Rights in the UK

A PSHE lesson that shows students how life has changed for disabled people in the UK. This includes learning about the Disability Discrimination Act and how life can is now for disabled people living in the UK.

Safe Sex

An in depth look at the holistic nature of safe sex, looking at the physical, emotional and legal risks of being in a sexual relationship. Some of the topics include STIs and contraception, abusive relationships, consent and sex drive.

Money and society

This set of lessons looks at the importance of money, how to effectively budget, and how to live in an economically conscious way. The lessons cover how to shop and cook on a budget, the importance of saving and budget retail with a focus on the negative impacts of fast fashion. In the final lesson, students will explore the role that foodbanks play in the UK.

Kill the Bill

Why are Kill the Bill protests happening and what will change if the proposed ‘Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill’ is passed?

Mental Health Matters

Through a series of six lessons you will learn about mental health. You will explore the stigma attached to mental health, how to recognise signs and symptoms of mental health problems and identify positive coping strategies. You will reflect on the way social media can impact our mental health and the positive role models that exist who promote the open discussion of mental health.

Crime and Deviance

We live in a world with increased government crackdowns on what is considered criminal activity at the same time that governments themselves seem to be flouting national and international laws. Through a series of six lessons you will explore the nature of crime and deviance in modern society; the state’s role in that; how the norms of a society affect crime and attitudes towards both state and personal protections against crime.

Racism, Inequality, Cultural Pride & Revolutionaries

Through a series of six lessons you will consider the importance of learning about true histories. You will learn about key historical movements, cultures and figures and will reflect on how fairly Black people are represented in the history that we are taught.
